PROTEAS – OPEN LAB – Placing the artwork on its canvas / July 2023 – Exhibition space for Western European Painting

4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

On Thursday, July 13th, as part of the PROTEAS – OPEN LAB program, an initiative that brings the general public closer to the art conservation process, museum visitors had the opportunity to witness up close, in the permanent exhibition of Western European Painting, the placement of the iconic work by Charles Luis Lucien Muller titled “March 30, 1814,” measuring 8.45 x 4.45 meters, onto a specially constructed canvas frame. The canvas frame was designed and built to accommodate the exceptionally large size of the artwork, taking into consideration the challenges and difficulties it posed.

Furthermore, the public had the chance to engage in conversations with the conservators from the Directorate of Art Conservation: Lila Androutsopoulou, Evie Garyfalaki, Elina Kavaliaratou, Eleni Kouloubi, Anna Moutsatou, Panagiotis Robakis, the Acting Head of the Art Conservation Directorate Agni Terlixi, as well as the Head of Collections and Museological Programming – Scientific Coordinator of PROTEAS, Eftychia Agathoniki.
