Fixing and repairing cracks in the work “30th March 1814” – Charles Louis Muller

12:00 am – 12:00 am

After the cleaning was completed and the old local patches were removed, the crack and hole locations had to be settled and stabilized before the next stage of maintenance. For this reason, first the slits were settled and on the painting surface, Japanese spider archival paper 04001 was glued to the slit and hole locations with BEVA 371 diluted in white spirit (1:1 ratio) using a brush. The local facing was intended to protect the painting surface, bonding and retaining exfoliation of the paint layer in areas where there was damage and cracking and where there could be losses in subsequent conservation stages.
